Peter Ørbæk

[Peter Orbaek [5 KB]]

As of June 2008 I work full time for my self at Meldgaard Ørbæk Software.

Until March 2006 I worked as an assistant professor at the Comp.Sci Department of the University of Aarhus, Denmark.

I participated in the EU 6th framework project Palcom, investigating software architecture for palpable computing. I primarily work on the Corundum C++ framework for some of our prototypes of palpable computing. I also worked on the hardware/software implementation of our Active Surfaces (or Tiles) prototype.

I was the thesis advisor for a number of M.Sc. students specializing in computer graphics (soft shadows, global illumination, data visualization, special effects,...).

I am chief software architect and co-founder of the company 43D ApS striving to commercialize some of the ideas of the WorkSPACE project.

In collaboration with the Pervasive Healthcare and B&O-lab projects I worked on a 2-way USB-infrared interface device (preliminary) in my spare time using a module from DLP Design based on a Microchip PIC16F877 controller and an FTDI USB interface chip.

From 2000 through 2003 I worked in the WorkSPACE project where we developed a 3D distributed, cross-platform, collaborative augmented reality environment called Topos, for Windows 2000, XP and Linux using using OpenGL, Qt, MFC and C++. As part of WorkSPACE I also constructed an IR beacon to support location based services based on the Microchip PIC12F629 microcontroller.

I also worked on video compression and room-based distributed education. I wrote a freely available wavelet-based video codec (updated to version 2.1 October 2004) that has been used in a distributed course on hypermedia, as well in a CSCW course taught from DTU in Lyngby to Aarhus. The codec was also integrated in the WorkSPACE Topos prototype to allow immersed video conferencing in the 3D environment.

If you download some of my Linux stuff or my research papers you are encouraged to fill out a small form to let me know why you do so. Please let me know about problems that you may have with the software.
